Expeditions

"Aiglon expeditions are physically rigorous, challenging and unique. I remember the great sense of accomplishment all of us felt as we achieved our planned objective.  Going on ex is my most memorable school experience."
(Louis Snyder, 1969 graduate)

Expeditions are a central part of every pupil's life at Aiglon, and a key element in what makes Aiglon unique. The outdoors is a proven and powerful medium for developing self-confidence and independence in young people and it provides the opportunity for pupils to experience team work in order to achieve a common aim.

Every student must complete two weekend excursions and one, three-day Long Expedition each term, although many pupils choose to spend more weekends than this out in the glorious and challenging Alpine landscape. During the Autumn and Summer terms the programme involves hiking and camping, with opportunities for mountain biking, orienteering, canoeing and rock climbing.  The famous network of Via Ferrata routes, unique to Switzerland, provides yet further challenges. In Winter, the programme switches to ski-touring and ski-mountaineering, rare activities for young people, taking them away into Alpine areas little frequented by the ordinary piste-skier.

A world class team of leaders, including three International Mountain Guides, ensure that the range of activities on offer will challenge every student, taking them beyond their comfort zone and presenting them with experiences that are unique to Aiglon.
