Gifts Policy
Receipt of gifts or gifts in kind Policy
Preamble and Aim
Members of Staff are offered gifts (or gifts in kind) from time to time from parents, students, suppliers and others connected with Aiglon College. The School recognises that these altruistic acts of generosity exist and also acknowledges that gifts may be perceived as inappropriate ways to solicit preferential treatment. This suspicion can lead to unhelpful and sometimes harmful criticism of individuals and of the School.
To protect individuals and the School a confidential Register of Gifts is held by the Bursar. The content of the register can only be disclosed to the Head Master or Chairman of Governors.
This policy aims to protect those in receipt of any such gifts and to ensure that criticism of the integrity of individuals and of the college can be justifiably refuted.
What Constitutes a Gift?
A ‘gift’ is considered to be anything which is offered by a parent, student, supplier or other person connected with Aiglon College and which might take the form of a bottle of wine, chocolates or an article of higher value.
A gift also includes an item which has an ‘in kind’ value such as a holiday, use of private accommodation or facilities, travel, theatre tickets, vouchers or discounts. Commission or discount in the form of cash or goods on the sale or rental of equipment is also considered to be a gift.
A gift is not defined by a minimum or maximum monetary value.
The Policy
• This policy applies to all employees of Aiglon College.
• Gifts of money should never be accepted, regardless of the value.
• Gift(s) amounting to an accumulated maximum of CHF200 from any person or organisation can be accepted without any requirement for disclosure.
• Individual gifts estimated to be valued at over CHF200 or several gifts from the same person or organisation estimated to be valued at over CF200 must be disclosed in writing to the Bursar who will maintain the Register of Gifts.
• Gifts in kind should be declared in advance wherever possible and must have the approval of the Head Master.
The School requires Staff to act with integrity at all times and should individuals have concerns about any gift which they are offered they should discuss this with the Head Master.
The School wants to maintain a reputation of integrity and therefore any breaches of this policy will be viewed as professional misconduct.
