Spanish
Spanish is a major world language and the official language in at least twenty countries. A good working knowledge of the language may be helpful for holiday purposes or others may wish to take advantage of career opportunities in both Spain and Latin America. We aim for our students to become aware of the huge diversity of the Spanish speaking world with its rich artistic and literary heritage.
After a one term “taster” for most students in the Language Carousel in 3rd form, Spanish is a GCSE/IGCSE option as a two year course for beginners or near beginners from the 4th form onwards. In the Sixth form students will have the option to follow a one-year AS course or complete the A2 course at the end of Upper Sixth. If numbers permit, then it is usually possible for native or near native speakers to complete the A2 in the Lower 6th year. There is an Upper Sixth visit to either Madrid or Barcelona in the autumn term.
As well as conventional classroom teaching, assignments are often set requiring students to undertake Internet research for project work or preparation for oral presentations. We are able to make use of our excellent audio-visual facilities in the individual classrooms and students also have access to our multimedia language laboratory and computer suite.
