Volcanic Ash Policy

Aiglon College Summer School recognises that it is possible that the Icelandic Volcano’s current ongoing activity and consequential ash cloud could cause some disturbances to the travel arrangements of our Summer School students to and from Geneva airport during July and August. In the interests of clarifying our stance on any flight delays or cancellations occurring as a result of any such disturbances and their subsequent effects on your child’s ability either to arrive or to depart from our Summer School programme, we are issuing this policy, as set out below.

We strongly advise all parents to review their children’s travel insurance policies.

1. If a Summer School student’s outward travel to Geneva Airport is delayed due to volcanic ash related reasons, it is wholly the responsibility of the student’s parents to liaise with the relevant airline and to reorganise their flight arrangements. The parents are responsible for communicating the amended flight details to the Aiglon College Vacation Courses Office as soon as possible.

2. The cost of any additional travel arrangements incurred by Aiglon College Summer School as a result of having to pick up a student from Geneva airport on a day other than the fixed arrival days (ie Saturday 10th July and Saturday 24th July) will be paid for by the student’s parents. In these circumstances, Aiglon College Summer School will send an invoice to the relevant parents.

3. Aiglon College Summer School will not offer any form of refund to parents for any days that a student misses of their Summer School programme as a result of the aforementioned delays.

4. If a Summer School student’s return travel is delayed due to volcanic ash related reasons, Aiglon College Summer School will provide safe and supervised accommodation with full board to that student at an additional cost of CHF 200.- per 24 hours of delay. In these circumstances, Aiglon College Summer School will send an invoice to the relevant parents.

5. In the event of return travel delayed as a result of volcanic ash related disturbances, Aiglon College Summer School agrees to take on the responsibility of liaising with the relevant airlines and reorganising any such affected students’ flights. Equally, Aiglon College Summer School agrees to communicate all amended flight details to the students’ parents as soon as is reasonably practicable.

6. The cost of any additional travel arrangements incurred by Aiglon College Summer School as a result of having to escort a student to Geneva airport on a day other than the fixed departure days (ie Saturday 24th July and Saturday 8th August) will be paid for by the student’s parents. In these circumstances, Aiglon College Summer School will send an invoice to the relevant parents.
