1949

On 8 January, John Corlette opens Aiglon College in rented accommodation at Chalet Chantecler

The school then moves to Les Evêques and rents La Fontaine (known affectionately as ‘The Farm’), Les Fleurettes and Riant Coteau.

The first Aiglon Prospectus is produced as well as the first Aiglon promotional film

Purchased with generous donations from Aiglon friends and families, Clairmont becomes the school’s first permanent home

Creation of the Aiglon Association with the publishing of the first “Aiglon Association News” in April 1957

The yearly publication offers a glimpse into school life reporting on key events from the year.

School roll stands at 51 students.

Joyce Lowe, John Corlette’s private assistant and ‘right-hand woman’, comes to Aiglon

Acquisition of Chalet Pré-Vallon for the establishment of a primary day school for boys and girls aged five to eleven

Aiglon meets with the six other schools that will form the Round Square Association

Roy Watts appointed Headmaster

Group Captain Roy Watts joined the College in 1966 and became Second Master and Deputy Head in 1969.

Philip Parsons appointed Headmaster

He was preceded by Paul Ledger who was appointed Headmaster from Janauary to July 1976, following the retirement of Roy Watts.

John Corlette passed away on 9 December 1977

Aiglon’s ownership passes to the Aiglon College Association (ACA) and becomes a not-for-profit school.

Opening of Forbes House

Chalet Les Fougères was purchased in 1977 and renovated to open in 1978 under the new name of Forbes House in memory of Lady Luia Forbes who was a teacher at Aiglon from 1963 to 1975.

Opening of La Baita boys’ junior house for the 1990-91 school year

1991 also sees the first full-funded scholar admitted to Aiglon

Inauguration of the John Corlette Building and the creation of the art room extension at Alpina

Burial of the Aiglon time capsule (which will be opened on the school’s 100th anniversary in 2049)

Jonathan Long appointed Headmaster

Simon Braidwood was appointed acting Headmaster before the arrival of Jonathan Long.

Opening of new Delaware building

2006 also saw the opening of Central Dining; the move of the library from Belvedere to Clairmont; and, the inauguration of the astronomy observatory donated by Mr Hani Kalouti.

Nicola Sparrow appointed Head of School

Nicola, who began as Aiglon’s Director of Studies in 2013, took over leading Aiglon’s academic side on becoming Head of School in 2019, while Richard Mc Donald was appointed Executive Director.
