Maejor’s Second Visit: Further Growing the Frequency School

“What’s your favourite music,” asks Maejor as a room full of small hands fly into the air before students begin to shout out favourite tracks and artists. “No one ever asks if you like music,” Maejor continues, “people ask, what music do you like? Music is universal.”

Maejor is a US Grammy-nominated producer and musical artist who is passionate about the power of music and frequency to bring unity and healing to today’s society. This is his second visit to Aiglon College. Last year during his inaugural visit to the school, Maejor and his team launched a new initiative called “Frequency School” to help expose young people to the idea that simple sound vibrations might be a lot more important to a universal love of music than people might expect.

This year the team returned to Switzerland to continue the collaboration with Aiglon’s Creative Arts Faculty and to offer students more exposure to this unique approach within the world of music.

Creativity as a Go-Giver

“A visit from someone like Maejor helps students to realise that music is not just about learning an instrument as part of school,” says Head of Music, Jane Trainer. “There is a whole world of music out there: from the professional, business side to the unique dynamics of exploring these frequencies and the holistic benefit of sound. Maejor cuts across all these worlds and gives students a unique perspective that is both intriguing and inspiring.”

During the two-day visit students got to know Maejor and his story, from producing albums (with his latest being nominated for four Grammys Awards this year) and working with big-name talents such as Justin Bieber, Frank Ocean, Nicki Minaj – to his own deeply personal journey through a cancer diagnosis and inspiration to help others through music. “I had this vision that I wanted to help people,” Maejor said as he addressed the school during a special Meditation. “But in my mind, I could put it off until I was older. But my experience as a cancer survivor changed that. I was a go-getter. Now I’ve switched to becoming a go-giver.”

During the Meditation and a series of workshops, students had the opportunity to engage with Maejor’s approach to frequencies both in the practices of wellbeing and music production. Each workshop helped to reveal music’s varied role and encourage both the students’ sense of self and the creative process in a holistic, dynamic way.

Experiencing Frequency School

Each workshop began with a brief introduction to the role of sound as a physical wave, the importance of frequencies and resonance and how various cultures and spiritual traditions have used this scientific concept for spiritual growth and development. Students then experienced a “soundbath” to participate in this holistic approach for themselves. One of Maejor’s frequency tracks filled the room as students spread out in the space. Brightly coloured sketches came to life on simple black paper as they allowed these frequencies to inspire their drawings. About more than just making art, Maejor invited students to reflect on the experience and associate sounds with their own sense of self, their presence and gratitude.

In the room next door, students then learned to pair this way of thinking with the more hands-on production process. Maejor created bespoke loops for the students, who then added their own layers working on keyboards and industry-standard production software, LogicPro. The students will continue to work on these tracks throughout the term with Maejor providing personalised feedback, meaning the student will have created a true collaboration with this celebrated artist.

Frequency School & The Aiglon Guiding Principles

“Maejor’s visits and this collaboration with Frequency School allows us to really experience our Guiding Principles in a hands-on and holistic way,” says James Pigott, Aiglon’s Director of Partnerships. “The Guiding Principles become more than just our ethos or vision statement, Maejor’s work helps to show that these things are real – that there really is a connection between mind, body and spirit.”

Beyond just the student workshops, Maejor’s team also sat down with numerous Aiglon staff teams to brainstorm and reflect on how Frequency School can work beyond just the realm of creative arts. James continues, “By working together with our school counsellors, our oracy team, learning support – we hope that we can set the stage for an even more integrated and holistic approach to our collaborations that can support the entire Aiglon community.”

A Year of Success

Since first launching the Frequency School initiative at Aiglon in 2024, Maejor and his team have offered workshops around the world, embarking on a broad effort to inspire others at the intersection of sound, music and wellbeing. The group made headlines this year with their Guinness World Record “195” recording that used a “healing” frequency alongside the voices of women around the world to spread a message of equality and hope, and featured several Aiglon students and staff. Likewise, the team inaugurated “World Frequency Day” this year playing 1111Hz on 11.11 at 11:11 to inspire a message of unity and peace.

“It’s certainly a unique collaboration,” reflected Jane. “And it's one of the special things that Aiglon can offer. We can explore these ideas with students and expose them to such a variety of traditions and approaches. We hope these couple of days have given them another outlet for creativity and perhaps a way to think differently about their own creative inspirations and aspirations.”
