The Exploration Years at Aiglon Offers Two Distinctive Programmes
The Exploration Years (10-11) are a formative time in the Aiglon student's journey.
The two year International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme provides our students robust, internationally recognised and externally evaluated qualifications, where they study core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and French. In parallel they have the opportunity to pursue their interests and passions in three subjects of their choice.
The one year Pre-IB programme is a bespoke curriculum developed at Aiglon to help students prepare for the rigour of the IB Diploma. Students on this programme also study core subjects, and have the opportunity to study subjects such as Psychology, Business & Economics, and Computer Science.
Whether studying IGCSEs or the Pre-IB, Aiglon's holistic approach to character education is central to all of the programmes. Activities such as expeditions on the mountain, performances on the stage, team spirit in sports activities, or students learning about different ways of seeing the world, are seen as just as important as the academics –we nurture well-rounded, balanced individuals who are empowered to grow in all aspects of life.
In June 2023, 26 students successfully graduated from the Pre–IB programme. Throughout the year, these students submitted a robust range of internal assessments (IAs) and took part in cultural trips across Europe, achieved an average Pre-IB Subject Grade of 5.75, and led engagement activities with our local community.
Congratulations to all our Pre-IB students!
“We are extremely proud of the students who have excelled in these results. Some of the individual performances are outstanding and, beyond the numbers, provide us incredible stories of character development” said Tom Duckling, Deputy School Director.
With the IGCSE programme having externally marked assessments, the results from the June 2023 examinations were not released until late August. This group of students have shown remarkable resilience, developed into young people who embrace challenges, whilst having the confidence to respectfully question their own and each other's perspectives.
We are thrilled to announce that the 46 Aiglon students studying towards the two year IGCSE programme achieved 78% A* to B grades.
We are proud of every single one of our student’s successes.
“At Aiglon we are about more than just academic grades – we nurture well-rounded, balanced individuals who develop and thrive across all aspects of life,” stated James Shaw, Assistant Head (IGCSE and Pre-IB Coordinator. “These IGCSE results are proof that having such a philosophy, combined with an exceptional supportive community, yields fantastic achievements for our students”.
