U.S. Grammy-nominated music producer Maejor launches ‘Frequency School’ at Aiglon College
Music is often referred to as the universal language of humankind. That is a philosophy that is embraced at Aiglon College, and the music programme is set up in a way that everyone will find something that appeals to them.
Over the course of two days, a new music initiative was presented on campus in Chesières, Switzerland, to more than 50 students from Years 7 -13. Aiglon welcomed the U.S. Grammy-nominated music producer, performer and mental health advocate Maejor and his new ‘Frequency School’ initiative, aiming to empower students through sound healing frequencies and music therapy to promote their mental health and emotional well-being.
Inspired by sound therapy through his cancer surviving journey, Maejor is on a global mission to heal through music. His new audible original award winning podcast Maejor Frequency was created to explore the healing power of music. Over his career, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and powerhouse producer has worked with the likes of Justin Bieber—with whom he collaborated on the #1 hit album Purpose—as well as Drake, Frank Ocean and DJ Martin Garrix, and countless others.
The Frequency School is a pioneering initiative designed to harness the transformative power of music for the holistic development of youth, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit. It aims to provide music-based wellness services to youth around the world, promoting not only their mental and physical health but also their spiritual wellbeing. Through services like music therapy, education, and performance, we empower young individuals to lead balanced, healthy, and fulfilling lives. The approach integrates the latest in music therapy with traditional wellness practices to support the whole person.
Maejor introduced his life trajectory and the reason for the creation of the Frequency School during a whole school morning meditation.
“I am thrilled that Frequency School has been launched at high altitude, the world-renowned Aiglon College in Switzerland” stated Maejor. “This is the first school in the world to actively engage with my new initiative. My vision is to bring this pioneering new concept to schools and education institutions around the globe and incorporate sound healing frequencies into their music education curriculums” he continued.
For over 75 years, Aiglon has offered students a holistic and inspirational experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional education. The school's founder, John Corlette, founded the school on a distinctive ethos: the balanced development of mind, body, and spirit. The journey through the school prioritises holistic education and celebrates creativity.
The two-day deepdive workshop included a series of theoretical classes and interactive workshops about the science behind sound frequencies, guided meditation workshops, sound baths, and binaural beats experiences. Students had the opportunity to learn how different sound frequencies and vibrations can be used to address specific wellness goals, such as stress relief, relaxation, or increased focus, and how incorporating sound healing practices into daily life can support overall wellbeing.
“What we really want is for every Aiglonian to find something in music that resonates with them and brings them joy and fulfilment,” said Tom Dobney, Head of Creative Arts, Aiglon College. “Developing a programme with Frequency School broadens the horizons of our students. At Aiglon our aim is for wellbeing to be integrated into all aspects of the school’s curriculum so that nurturing and promoting mental and physical vigour plays a fundamental part in shaping the culture of the school community.”
Through targeted exercises focused on the mind, body, spirit correlation, they explored the potential therapeutic impact and benefits for mental health, school performance, and their learning and personal growth and development.
The courses emphasised the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, with content tailored to demonstrate how music can be a vehicle for comprehensive wellness. Coursework included practical applications of music therapy, educational insights into the science of music and wellness, and performance opportunities designed to strengthen physical health and spiritual connection.
“Music is a universal language and has the transformative power to improve the personal lives, academic performance and career development of youth and boost their mental health and spiritual wellbeing,” said Maejor.
The collaboration culminated in a music production by the students mixing sound healing frequencies and music instruments with Switzerland’s traditional labrophone: the alphorn.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to learn firsthand from an industry leader whose work spans multiple genres and global platforms. Maejor's dedication to using music as a force for healing and change aligns perfectly with the schools Guiding Principles and we’re excited to see how this collaboration will inspire our community” Jane Trainer, Head of Music, Aiglon College.
Music enjoys a high profile at Aiglon, from the regular singing assemblies that bring everyone together from across the school, to the House Shout, the much loved annual singing contest in which each boarding house takes the stage to perform as one single group. Everyone is encouraged and everyone is welcome.
