The Eagle

The more you overcome, the more capable you are to set out upon ambitious journeys. The Eagle programme will help you prepare you not just for our mountain expeditions, but help you relish the challenges in the world beyond.

Overview

Students approaching their final years of schooling are not only keen for new experiences, but they are looking for opportunities to push their own limits - academically, emotionally, and physically. For this reason, we have structured a new programme with young adults aged 15-17 in mind.

Whatever their ambitions are beyond the school environment, The Eagle programme will bolster their resolve and enhance their preparedness for the challenging environment that awaits them. As is appropriate for older students stepping into the world as global citizens, our Eagle Programme offers a greater level of challenge which expects more of the student while at the same time empowering them. The opportunities on offer have been designed to encourage independent inquiry, alongside developing their spirit of cooperation. A varied timetable reflects the range of curriculum and activities that are appropriate for each individual course.

Currently, the learning components of the Leadership Skills and Business & Entrepreneurship courses take place over a mixture of full and half days - taking advantage of opportunities for theoretical and practical tuition. On days when the academic course ends at lunchtime, an organised afternoon activity or excursion follows.

"The Eagle" Course Offerings
English
Interactive English Course

Our Interactive English course - available for students of beginner, intermediate, and advanced abilities - provides the opportunity to gain a greater practical and theoretical insight into this valuable language.

Through interactive games and collaborative classroom activities, students will develop their skills on the path to becoming confident and competent English language communicators. Our passionate educators have crafted a curriculum which embraces project-led methods for engaging students with the tools they need to take their language learning to the next level.

At Aiglon, the primary language is English, and as a result students receive a high degree of exposure to the language during their day-to-day interactions. We know from decades of experience that combining recreational activities with interactive learning methods results in students receiving an effective and enjoyable linguistic education.

French
Interactive French Course

The value of students being global thinkers cannot be overstated, and the ability to communicate in multiple languages opens up not just useful educational and vocational opportunities for students, but also the chance to connect meaningfully with other cultures. The Interactive French courses that we’ve created - for beginner, intermediate, or advanced abilities - provide students with the tools to improve their linguistic skills through interactive games and collaborative classroom projects.

Our campus is housed in the Swiss Alpine environment, and as such the mother tongue of our host country is French. Our courses place great emphasis upon incorporating interactive approaches to learning a language, and students will discover opportunities to explore the surrounding regions, utilising the skills learnt with our passionate teachers.

As part of the Summer School activities schedule, we hold a French social evening, during which all students learning French come together for an additional opportunity to practice their improved skill set with fellow summer Aiglonians and Francophone staff. We fully embrace the concept that enjoyable educational exercises, supported by interactive activities and new experiences are an excellent method for students to absorb their new language.

As a result, we have developed this new course to help develop students’ entrepreneurial passions.

Students will learn how to develop and present new business ideas using business principles and strategy. The course will also focus on public speaking, how to write a CV and application letter, body language, team building and negotiation skills. SAT Preparation
SAT Preparation Course

Eagle students are often conscious that those weeks spent exploring the Alpine environment at Aiglon is time they could be spending in valuable preparation of SAT or ACT exams. This can be a difficult and stressful time, and as a result we’ve created a special programme that combines the Summer School activities and expeditionary experience with one week fully dedicated to SAT and ACT prep (3-9 August). Students may also attend the Summer School for only this course.

We are fortunate to be able to offer this course, which is led by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutor, whose inspirational approach unlocks in students a deeper understanding of the subject matter. This is an ideal opportunity for students to level-up their potential SAT & ACT scores.

Please note that this course is intensive - SAT preparation sessions will run in the morning and evening. Students are able to join a Summer School afternoon activity during the week, or if they wish, attend a supervised SAT study session in the afternoon.

Activities & Expeditions

The expeditionary elements of The Eagle programme have been designed to suit the abilities and ambitions of the more mature student. Although they will be accompanied by expert guides, we place a greater emphasis on embracing students’ independent and responsible spirits. They will often take leadership roles during the expeditions, working together as they explore, hiking through up alpine trails before spending the night in a mountain hut. Students that choose the Eagle Leadership and Mountain Adventure Course or the Eagle Business and Entrepreneurship Course go on an additional two-day (overnight) expedition as part of their course to extend their learning off campus.

A summer spent on The Eagle programme is a valuable asset for students during these important transitional years. We provide them with useful tools, enriching experiences, new friendships, and an opportunity for discovery.
