Belvedere houseparents, Mr and Mrs Knight look back on a successful and adventurous summer term.
It's hard to believe that a year has passed since we first welcomed our boys home to the Big B! This term has been as successful and entertaining as any we have enjoyed together. Our boys were especially focused on achieving the best grades possible via IGCSE, IB, SAT and internal exams, the Year 12s have taken over the running of the house and pursued challenges on expeditions and elsewhere.
We began the term with an outstanding victory in the Inter-house Debating Final with Belvedere winning for the first time in years on the motion "This House would rather argue than agree," that we were proposing. This was a house success from the boys who directly argued, offered floor speeches and generally gave their rapturous support. We hosted the Year 10s for a special houseparent trip for sushi and bowling, the house for a special "Milk and Cookies Revision Night," enjoyed Mrs K's breakfasts, hosted biweekly coffee/tea and chocolates for our Years 12 and 13 on Private Side, played inter-house tennis, competed in inter-house mathematics, striven in SGIS athletics’ tournaments and of course achieved excellent individual and house successes in the Sports Day competition and finished the day with a rather relaxing trip to Aqua Park afterwards.
The term ended with great fun on the year group expeditions, end of term barbecue and final house dinner where we lauded our amazing Year 13s. We say farewell to not only our graduands and a few others, but to our exceptional deputy houseparent Mr Law, though we also welcome our new assistant Ms Harold who we are certain will be a singular addition to the Belvedere family.
Kate, Alma and I are so very proud of our lovely boys and are already excited for the year to come!
