Aiglon was delighted to host Beau Soleil on Wednesday, January 24th for the first Aiglon-Beau Soleil Debate.
Organised by Fatima (Year 13, Exeter), the teams had one hour to prepare the motion "This House believes that boarding schools are better than day schools" – a topic close to home, but nonetheless with some challenging arguments that required the debaters to think on their feet.
Alongside Fatima, Marc (Year 11, Delaware) and Somphors (Year 12, Clairmont) opposed the motion, and they all spoke convincingly, with poise and verve. Henri (Year 13, Belvedere) was a fair but firm Chairperson, ensuring that all of the speakers stuck to their allocated time limits, and fielding some fiery questions from the floor. Beau Soleil emerged victorious, but it was a close debate and Fatima took the award for Best Speaker.
We look forward to our next encounter, hopefully in the summer term!
