A group of 16 students and 4 members of staff have had the pleasure of being involved in the first Aiglon Service Project in Kenya.
Aiglon has maintained a strong connection with Kenya as Starehe School was the first African school to join Round Square and our link has continued since then. Nowadays, we sponsor 12 students to study there as well as offer scholarships for students to come to Aiglon. Our students had the opportunity to visit Starehe Boys and Girls schools and even meet the students who we sponsor.
The project had a strong teaching focus, but also allowed our students to discover the Kenyan culture through a safari, visiting a flower farm and a boat trip in a lake full of hippos! Before teaching, the students sat in lessons to experience what it means to attend a different school in a different culture. In order to teach, they worked with the prefects from Oserian High School, the centre in which we did our project! Aiglon students fully immersed themselves in their lives: going to lessons, having lunch with the other Kenyan students and even playing a football game together. It has been amazing to see them interacting with other students and especially to see them all together teaching in the primary schools subjects such as English, Democracy and Moral Values. Moreover, they have also sponsored and served one lunch in which many Kenyan students have received a banana for the first time.
A truly unique and rewarding experience that will continue next academic year!
