Aiglon remains the only school in the world to have attended Spacefest events.
We have been to the conference on five previous occasions with enthusiastic and lucky students. This year, Spacefest is in the middle of our long summer holiday, which makes organising a formal school trip more challenging. Spacefest takes place on 5th - 8th July 2018.
As a result, we would like to advertise this event to our community: alumni, alumni families, students and current families interested in space all have something to gain from this amazing event, and we would invite you to come along.
If enough from the Aiglon community sign-up, we can organise additional events and tours around the local area. (E.g. to Kitt Peak Observatory, Biosphere 2, Titan Missile Museum).
If you have questions, or want to talk further, please contact: John Turner (Head of Physics).
Tickets go on sale at noon Mountain Standard Time on Wednesday 14 Feb 2018.
Anyone who is keen to attend the conference should note that: 1) the best packages (Universal & Galactic) always sell out and 2) seating at banquets and luncheons is determined based on ticket number – those who purchase their tickets first have priority. That means if you want to sit next to your hero at dinner, buy your ticket as soon as they are released!
As well as talks, lectures and panels by astronauts (including heroes of the Apollo era who flew to / walked on the moon, see list below) and NASA scientists, there is a wide range of activities to interest the whole family. This includes a STEAM event, Art show, screenings of documentary films, a chance to buy a meteorite or space memorabilia, etc. Most impressive though, is the opportunity to just chat to the legends of space, over breakfast, or perhaps a glass of wine at the VIP reception. Or over dinner. They are remarkably welcoming people. At past Spacefests, Aiglon students have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to a wide range of people including:
Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11 Moonwalker, 2nd man on the moon)
Michael Collins (Gemini 10, Apollo 11)
Dave Scott (Gemini 8, Apollo 9, Apollo 15 moonwalker)
Gene Cernan (Gemini 9A, Apollo 10, Apollo 17 moonwalker, last man on the moon)
Alan Bean (Apollo 12 moon walker, Skylab 3, artist)
Charlie Duke (Apollo 16 moon walker)
Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14 moonwalker)
Jim McDivitt (Gemini 4, Apollo 9)
Jim Lovell (Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 13)
Dick Gordon (Gemini 11, Apollo 12)
Walt Cunningham (Apollo 7)
Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9)
Fred Haise (Apollo 13)
Al Worden (Apollo 15 – has also given a speech at Aiglon)
