On May 26th 2019 Patrick Wachira and a small band of supporters will cycle 180km around the Lac Léman to raise support for the SEBA CZ Scholarship Fund.
"To a competitive cyclist, this would probably seem pretty standard, but in our context, it is a challenge to me and the students who are taking part with me," Patrick said. "Personally, I had never cycled until two years ago and this will be pushing my limits. The fact that students and staff members will join me is really inspirational."
This challenge, first undertaken in 2017 is a way for recipients of the SEBA CZ Scholarship Fund to give back to the fund that provided for their own time at Aiglon. The tour involves an early departure from the south-east end of the lake to cycle clockwise around the perimeter, crossing into France, through Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux before returning to the starting point in Villeneuve.
Patrick won't be alone. He is supported by other staff members and students, a mixture of keen cyclists as well as others who have just taken up the sport for this adventure. They are all hoping for good weather in what has been a very rainy springtime in Switzerland.
Patrick is nervous, but excited. "I am undertaking this challenge because Aiglon and Seba CZ have given me an opportunity that has changed the course of my life indefinitely. This challenge is, therefore, my very own small way of giving back to the community and to challenge myself by setting a limit I have never attained before, because Seba was just as adventurous during and after his time in Aiglon, if not more."
