Regularly throughout the year, our College & Careers Office will write blogs and important updates about the important process of university applications.
All of these updates are published on our website and on the dedicated College & Careers Bloge page. Read the latest information below.
Year 13 (2 September 2019)
Students in Year 13 spent their first day of school in an all-day, university application workshop. They reviewed personal essays and personal statements, worked diligently on the Common Application, UCAS or other application forms, and connected to Maia Learning (a platform used for sending transcripts and recommendations directly to universities).
An Aiglon alumnus and current University of Oxford student visited the workshop and discussed student life, application and interview advice with our prospective Oxford and Cambridge applicants. Other students enjoyed watching recorded alumni videos about university life, gap year experiences and more!
Applications for Oxford, Cambridge and early USA admission plans (ED, EA) will be completed before the half-term break. Following the break, all remaining applications are expected to be complete by the end of November. The College Counsellors are working very hard at this time of year editing applications and essays, discussing futures and career choices, setting strategy for ideal admission results, and meeting with students and parents as often as needed.
Year 12 (2 September 2019)
During the IB orientation programme on the first day of school, students were introduced to the resources available in Aiglon’s College and Career Counselling department, including a general overview of various application systems around the world and their requirements and expectations. In the winter term, students will have one-on-one counselling sessions to determine their goals for university research, build an initial college list, discuss SAT strategy (if applicable), and begin personal essay and personal statement writing.
Year 10 and Year 11 (16 September 2019)
In week three, the College and Career Counselling department held a workshop with all Year 10 and Year 11 students. At this time, it is important for students to understand how their mark readings and choices for extracurricular activities play a role in their university applications. Therefore, a general overview was provided, outlining options and expectations for universities around the world. Students were encouraged to explore ideas for summer programmes, internships, or volunteer work for July-August 2020; the College Counsellors are available to assist in those discussions, research, and applications as of January 2020.
SATs at Aiglon
Aiglon College is a certified SAT test site centre, administering the SAT (an admission entrance exam typically required of some US universities). The SAT test is offered each year in October, December, March and May. The SAT subject tests (specific to certain courses and only required of the most selective schools) are offered in October, November, December, May and June. Formal preparation/tutoring is highly recommended as the content of the test is unlike the IB curriculum. Aiglon offers an intensive SAT preparation course in partnership with an elite US test prep company, AlphaPrep. The course will be held this year, December 13-17, 2019.
