Since half term our focus has been very much on improving our reading in La Casa.
We have been working alongside the girls’ literacy teachers to manage and support every girl in the house. Some girls read with us individually aloud to develop confidence and improve pronunciation. At the other end of the spectrum, others are falling in love with their chosen novels from the library and they are pleading with staff, “Just one more page, please don’t turn the lights out!” It's a great problem to have!
We also have the advantage of having year 12 and 13 girls in La Casa, who can listen to the younger girls reading or just talking about shared books they have enjoyed.
Reading for 30 minutes in the evening before bed helps the girls improve their English and switch off mentally from phones and technology to aid their quality of sleep and develop good habits.
