Too frequently when we reflect on one’s time at Aiglon, we do so just when our graduands are departing.
However, we in Belvedere wanted to interview our leading house prefects in order to determine what it was like when they first arrived, what they have been most proud of in their time already and what they hope still to “achieve” before they leave
... Here are Belvedere’s finest! ...
First Impressions: what did you think during your first weeks at Aiglon?
"That the school food was exceptionally good! Everything is done for you!” -Jan (House Captain)
"That it didn’t really feel like a school --after school you could play sports, go into town and that students were given lots of freedom. I was excited to go to the Sports Centre and try lots of different sports... [and] a little overwhelming." -Umberto (House Captain)
"Just how 'tight' everyone was, a sense of family. Everyone is very friendly." -Jonas (Deputy Sports Captain)
"When I first arrived in the Junior School, I felt isolated and strange; I didn’t make many friends. When I moved up to the senior school, I was scared but in the end it wasn’t as scary as my brother said it would be!" -Nikolaos
"I was really homesick at first and nervous. I was missing friends and family from home but gradually that feeling got better" -Daichi (Sports Captain)
What have been the highlights so far of your time at Aiglon, what do you think you’ll remember when you have left?
"Doing the Lac Leman Challenge, Chateau d'Aigle meal with Belvedere and physics lessons with Mr Turner, especially with the helium balloon!" -Jan
"I feel like I’m going to make friends that last a long time here. Also, the sports programme: Mr George and basketball, badminton, swimming and Mr Fairweather." -Umberto
"Skiing in all it’s different forms: high ex, glacier ex. Lessons with Mr Piggott and Ms Tienerny." -Jonas
"Now, I have a really tight group of friends whom I really value and will remember for a long time. Also, times on ex, bonding with friends --but I am never going on ex again once I leave Aiglon!" - Nikolas
"Being together with my friends (possibly more so than academics!) and service projects (I have been on 4 so far)." - Daichi
What is on your Aiglon bucket list?
"Camp in the centre of campus on my last night, go to Sporting for the first time and maybe even break a rule!" - Jan
"Going on a service project (Thailand is coming up later in the year). - Umberto
"Dents du Midi High Ex and more skinning." - Jonas
"After 7 years here there is nothing left to do!" - Nikolas
"Going to Peru, high ex and graduating!" - Daichi
