Summer School 2020 NEW Courses
Posted on 26th November 2019
The world is open to discovery. When students join the Aiglon Summer School programme, they are entering not just as learners but explorers.
Our rich timetable of lessons combined with a series of unique outdoor adventure opportunities will ensure they leave more confident, more capable, and hungry for what the world has to offer. We welcome students aged 8-17 to the Summer School for 2, 3 and 4 week programmes!
For Summer 2020, Aiglon is widening the variety of courses on offer to students. See below!
The Sustainable Creator Course
At Aiglon, we enjoy a deep connection to the environment in which we are fortunate to spend each day. It is truly a gift to be surrounded by awe-inspiring natural wonders, and we place great emphasis on providing expeditions and experiences which allow us to better appreciate our mountain home. With this in mind, we have developed an exciting new course; The Sustainable Creator.
For students who wish to take a more hands-on approach to their summer education, this course combines practical design, sustainable cooking methods, and knowledge of the resources provided by the natural world. Guided by enthusiastic experts, students will develop creative and engineering skills as they build a pizza/bread oven. They will then spend their time learning to make dough for bread, make pizzas from scratch, and forage in our Swiss Alpine surroundings for ingredients with which to make their own jams.
While we are fortunate to live in an era filled with technological advantages, this course provides opportunities for students to connect more meaningfully with the natural world through a deeper understanding of sustainable living methods, and developing a valuable toolbox of practical skill sets.
Switzerland Explorer Course
At Aiglon, we are fortunate to spend each day surrounded by the incredible vistas provided by our Alpine environment. Switzerland continues to offer opportunities to be inspired, and avenues for exploration. This new morning course will teach students about Switzerland's unique geography and culture. They will explore the local community, learning how cheese and chocolate are made, visiting salt mines, and experience the varied mountain geography such as gorges and waterfalls.
Business and Entrepreneurship Course
The current business environment across the planet is one in which entrepreneurship is actively encouraged. At Aiglon, we know that there are those students who are enthusiastically brimming with business concepts, and are keen to learn how to effectively implement them. As a result, we have developed this new course to help develop students’ entrepreneurial passions.
Students will learn how to develop and present new business ideas using business principles and strategy. The course will also focus on public speaking, how to write a CV and application letter, body language, team building and negotiation skills. Students will have a 2 day (overnight) visit to a Swiss city to explore the culture and sites of interest. In addition students will also take part in an Aiglon expedition, and experience a night in the mountains, staying in a mountain hut.
Leadership and Mountain Adventure Course
Aiglon has the perfect setting for a leadership course, using the school campus and the surrounding mountain environment. This course teaches the key elements of leadership, and includes some classroom theoretical learning which will then be taken and practiced outdoors. The course has a varied structure from camp craft and survival skills to body language and public speaking to team challenges, map reading, orienteering and climbing. There is an overnight camping expedition as part of the course, and also an overnight mountain expedition, where students will hike and spend a night in a mountain hut.
