On Tuesday 19th May the Oudang Room was the venue for a remarkable evening of music making.
This took the shape of a lecture recital given by the world-renowned concert pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Stunningly accompanied by his wife on a second piano, he give a breathtakingly exciting performance of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
A packed and mesmerized Oudang Room listened with awe and complete focus to the virtuosic pianism of Jean-Efflam. Rarely does an audience get the opportunity to experience and enjoy such a close up and personal encounter with a musical master at work. He was truly an inspiration to us all, not just through the exuberance of his virtuosic craftsmanship at the piano, but also as he spoke to us following his performance. His analytical insights and infectious love and enthusiasm for this particular piece, and indeed all things musical, inspired and challenged us all to listen, understand and explore further. Job done, Jean-Efflam!!
The concert was specifically targeting the studies of our 8 IB Year 12 music students, who study this particular work as a set study piece for their IB music examination. They of course had the best seats in the house, on the front row, behind the fast moving fingers of Jean-Efflam. Armed with their scores and many questions they thoroughly enjoyed the evening, fully relishing and understanding the privilege of being part of it..
Aiglon College wishes to thank to Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Andrea Bavouzet for performing for us, giving of their time so selflessly and for sharing their world with us in such an inspirational and evangelical way. Thank you also to a very supportive audience comprised of many students across all Aiglon year groups, Aiglon College staff and members of our local community.
Aiglon College Oudang Room, last Tuesday…..next week Bartok’s PIano Concerto No 2 in The National Concert Hall Taipei………..followed by a Mozart Piano Concerto performance with the Verbier Festival Orchestra in early July. We wish him well on his musical travels and adventures.
