Three Aiglon boarding houses received some nice upgrades this past summer.
A student's boarding house becomes a home away from home during their years at Aiglon. House pride runs high, and students remain connected to their house for decades after they leave the mountain.
The first of two phases of Alpina refurbishments were completed in early September. These included an overhaul of the ground floor common areas.
While renovations were already planned, gifts from the Alpina Class of 2019 enabled additional enhancements. The common room walls were painted a warmer, more inviting colour and new tables and chairs were purchased to bring the look and feel into a more raw and contemporary vibe. The kitchen area was opened up to allow better access to the dining room and an island was installed to make better use of a shared space around which boys gather to snack and plate their food.
This has allowed the School to make beautiful upgrades to the shared spaces where Alpina boys relax and spend time together. These renovations brought about through philanthropy have made a huge impact on the everyday lives of students in Alpina.
As they graduated from Aiglon, the Clairmont Class of 2019 provided funds to the house so future classes of girls could relax more comfortably. This gift supported the purchase of a number of colourful, oversized bean bags — impressive, robust, iconic and unbeatable in terms of appearance and functionality. This addition allows girls the perfect way to lounge both on the outside terrace and inside during colder weather.
The Belvedere common room has gone under a complete makeover due in no small part to the fundraising efforts by the Class of 2019.
In addition to the new sofas, the Belvedere boys have new kitchen islands, a coffee table, rugs, and lamps in the common room. The shelves which are proudly displaying trophies won by the house are also part of the refurbishment.
A new Belvedere House crest was also added and now takes pride of place in the common room. The crest was a gift from a Belvedere parent and the entire House was excited to get it up in time for the start of term. The artwork up on the wall is by Erben (Class of 2019). Upstairs, two new sofas were purchased in addition to new coffee tables, a new bookcase, and lights.
