Reading Competition
Always an Aiglon favourite, this week the Year 8 students participated in the traditional reading competition!
The Year 8 (mainstream language/set 1) reading competition is an important event in the Junior School calendar which develops students' speaking skills and their knowledge of (and hopefully love of) literature.
This year's event was won by Ian (La Baita) with a hilarious and confident performance of 'Strict' by Michael Rosen. Edward (La Baita) gained second place for his moving reading of 'Flanders Field' by John McCrae and third place was awarded to Ludovica (La Casa) for her mature performance of 'Phenomenal Women' by Maya Angelou.
Students select their pieces for the event (with the support of their teacher) and text type; this term, students read poems and extracts from famous speeches. One poem, Poetry? was written by London hip hop artist, and poet, Karl Nova, who 'met' with students this week to talk about rap and its connection with poetry.
