Health & Wellbeing

Aiglon promotes the mental and physical health and emotional wellbeing of all its students. Our aim is for wellbeing to be integrated into all aspects of the school’s curriculum so that nurturing and promoting good mental and physical health plays an important part in shaping the culture of the school community.

Our understanding of physical and mental wellbeing is central to our ethos of holistic learning and balanced development. We recognise that our community is at its best when we understand what it means to sleep well, be active, live a balanced lifestyle and be supportive of each individual's journey toward healthy living. To this end, Aiglon's health and wellbeing programme is designed to support our community.

We are proud of our dedicated staff teams that support physical and mental wellbeing as well as student leaders who help to support the school's initiatives.

Family is also at the heart of Aiglon life. Students feel great loyalty to their house and school and enjoy close relationships with their teachers. We welcome students from all religions as well as those who are non-believers: we are a diverse school and proud to learn about each other’s traditions. Students are encouraged to take their part in the life of our community: from leadership opportunities and helping manage our sustainability programme, to helping mentor younger and new students.

Perhaps most important to Aiglon’s family atmosphere, however, is the role teaching staff play in pastoral care. Teachers are available 24/7 to students: as residential houseparents and assistant houseparents, as house tutors and in the classroom.

Health Centre

Aiglon has its own Health Centre, situated near the Sports Centre. The Associate Director of Nursing and Associate Director of Health Care Services run a team of qualified hospital nurses who ensure there is always coverage in the Health Centre. Aiglon also partners with local doctors or specialists and will refer and accompany students to appointments as necessary. The Health Centre also oversees all vaccinations programmes, student health, referrals, the distribution of medication and coordinates health-related functions across the boarding houses.

In addition to high-quality, on-site medical care the Health Centre is also pleased to offer a variety of complementary approaches that support a wide range of health preferences and traditions, including:

  • local Chinese medicine
  • natural medicines based on essential oils
  • access to a sophrologist
  • a dietician
  • And more to come!
Wellbeing

The counselling support provided at Aiglon conforms to high professional standards and current best practices for school-based counselling, specifically in respect of counsellor qualifications, supervision policy, safeguarding practices and continuous professional development.

A counselling service that is responsive to students' needs and operates as an integral part of Aiglon’s wellbeing provision requires a collaborative and cooperative partnership. Our wellbeing priorities are listed below:

  • Proper sleep patterns
  • Emotional resilience
  • Healthy eating
  • Positive relationships
  • Regular exercise
  • Self-respect
Safeguarding

Aiglon is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, including their mental health and emotional wellbeing, and expects all staff to share this commitment. We recognise that children have a fundamental right to be protected from harm and that students cannot learn effectively unless they feel secure. We therefore aim to provide a school environment which promotes self- confidence, a feeling of self-worth and the knowledge that students’ concerns will be listened to and acted upon.

School Dining

With Aiglon’s emphasis on healthy outdoor living, it is expected that our students will work up an appetite. Luckily, here at Aiglon we take food very seriously – as a provider of sound nutrition to growing bodies, but also as a joyful, communal activity and as a cultural learning experience where young people are able to try out new foods, discover flavours, and acquire some culinary skills of their own.

Aiglon’s has a modern restaurant standard kitchen able to cater for students daily nutritional welfare as well as major events such as graduation. It is overseen by and international team led by our Restaurant Manager and Head Chef. The food served up daily reflects the recommendations of the Swiss Society for Nutrition with the majority of products of Swiss origin, yet provides a range of international flavours reflecting the broad diversity of individuals within the School community. Vegetarian options and special diets are always available, and once per week the whole school eats a vegetarian menu.
