Student Wellbeing

We are a family where students and teachers work together toward the benefit of all. The wellbeing and happiness of our students is of paramount importance.

Family is at the heart of Aiglon life. Students feel great loyalty to their house and school and enjoy close relationships with their teachers. We welcome students from all religions as well as those who are non-believers: we are a diverse school and proud to learn about each other’s traditions.

Students are encouraged to take their part in the life of our community: from leadership opportunities and helping manage our sustainability programme, to helping mentor younger and new students. Perhaps most important to Aiglon’s family atmosphere, however, is the role teaching staff play in pastoral care. Teachers are available 24/7 to students: as residential houseparents and deputy houseparents, as house tutors and in the classroom.

Health Centre

Aiglon has its own Health Centre, situated opposite the school playing fields. A team comprising five nurses and one nursing assistant is on call 24 hours a day. Any student who is infectious or needs looking after can be admitted for care. There are regular (and on-demand) visits by medical specialists, including doctors and counsellors, and students can be referred immediately to local doctors. In the event that any student has a serious accident or requires extended in-patient care, parents are informed immediately.

PSHE

Our goal at Aiglon is for every student to achieve their personal potential. During their time with us, individuals progress from childhood to young adulthood, and we support that development in very many ways. The "whole child" approach is embedded in the structure of the school and relationships within it, but Aiglon also has a formal Personal, Social, Health & Emotional (PSHE) curriculum. Students have enjoyed and learned from workshops on healthy eating and positive body image, sessions on developing resilience, and frank and supportive age-appropriate sessions on sexual health and relationships. This learning is cross-curricular, so that, for example, a young person inspired to start making healthier food choices for breakfast will be sure to find plenty of those foods available in their House dining room.

Chaplaincy

While Aiglon was founded on Christian values, we are a fully international community with students drawn from as many as 60 countries around the globe, of all faiths, and none. Our chapel is used throughout the year for services and concerts. Our chaplain, Mr James Torrence, studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge and worked as a science teacher in Britain and abroad, before training for the Anglican ministry (although he chose not to be ordained). This background makes him a uniquely good fit for Aiglon’s educational, multi-faith community.

Dining

With Aiglon’s emphasis on healthy outdoor living, it is expected that our students will work up an appetite. Luckily, here at Aiglon we take food very seriously – as a provider of sound nutrition to growing bodies, but also as a joyful, communal activity, and as a cultural learning experience where young people are able to try out new foods, discover flavours, and acquire some culinary skills of their own. Aiglon’s has a modern restaurant standard kitchen able to cater for students daily nutritional welfare as well as major events such as graduation. It is overseen by and international team led by our Restaurant Manager and Head Chef. The food served up daily reflects the recommendations of the Swiss Society for Nutrition with the majority of products of Swiss origin, yet provides a range of international flavours reflecting the broad diversity of individuals within the School community. Vegetarian options and special diets are always available, and once per week the whole school eats a vegetarian menu.
